Election Observer Bulletin for 2008The Nineteenth Issue

Introduction ...

There were diverse election activities in the month of March 2008 in more than one Arab country. The Election Observer Bulletin identified eight election chapters and monitored and watched them. They included presidential, legislative, press, and local elections and discussion of the electoral law.

The first chapter identifies the developments pertaining to the election of the Egyptian local councils due to be held on 8 April 2008. The power of these local councils in this election session stems from the constitutional amendment that was introduced in 2005. Moreover, party elections were held in more than one professional association. In fact a judicial decision was made to go ahead with the elections of the Egyptian Engineers Association [EEA] after the suspension of these elections for 14 years. Details
