Arab Network for Elections Monitoring

After months of constructive consultations 40 organizations from 13 Arab Countries constituted the Arab Election Network. The network was established following an initiative by the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), which conducted a needs assessment survey of civil society organizations in the Arab world who work in the field of election monitoring. The outcome of this survey showed a crucial need for improvements in the field of election monitoring.

The network was therefore established with the following objectives:
To develop a positive culture of elections through constructive use of media and through the dissemination of related material;

To improve the skills and efficiency of administrative staff and various stakeholders involved in electoral processes in the region through training courses on best international practices;

To convene conferences and to organize workshops on basic concepts of elections and the techniques of good electoral conduct;

To develop programs targeting special interest groups in the society, such as women, youth and political parties, in order to strengthen their role in the electoral process;

To monitor electoral processes in the Arab World in general, with special focus on the performance of governments, media, and political parties, and to publish detailed reports on the neutrality and fairness of elections;

To develop partnerships with international organizations and institutions specialized in electoral capacity building programs.
